Himatnagar or Himmatnagar is a city and a municipality in Sabarkantha district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of the district. The name literally means the "Town of Courage". Hathmati is the river that flows through the city. The city was named after the King Himmat Singh. Himmat High School which is the biggest school in the town is also named after the King. There are two palaces in the town of the King Himmat Singh. Motipura, Mehtapura, Mahavirnagar, Pologround are major areas of the city. Navratri, Diwali, Ramzan and Uttrayan are the biggest festivals of city. It is also believed that Agnihotri Shala the times of Mahabharata was established near Himatnagar. It is also famous for Pologround which hosts Asia's best Horse Training Centre, as well as it is a Historical City of North Gujarat where King Himmatsinh's Palace is located.
Interestingly, some of the places that share names of the landmarks with baroda Are – Nyay Mandeer, Alkapuri,Pologround,(Dolat/Laxmi) Vilas Palace and Gandhi Road (well, the last one could be found in any city in India but here it is not named after Mahatma Gandhi , but after one of the most renowned and respected doctor and human being, Dr. Nalinkant R. Gandhi). Heart of city is cinema road (officially named as C N Shah road as respect to long lasting mayor Chhotalal N Shah)
